About ZMH

Zienna Mieko-Haynes, born in London (1997), is an accomplished self taught multidisciplinary fine artist, who has established herself through her specialism in abstract painting. Her extensive portfolio encompasses a diverse range of mediums, including painting, videography, illustration and graphic media design.

With over a decade of experience in the fields of fine art and fashion, she presents a well-honed oeuvre of creative expression that she continues to expand upon. Zienna has recently begun exploring practices such as installation, ceramic, and clay sculpture, in addition to broadening her repertoire by integrating art and technology through the production of artworks in collaboration with AI.

Zienna’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of complex emotions within the realm of abstraction and the phenomena of pareidolia in her work. Fascinated by these themes, she actively explores the interplay between her art and the viewer's perceptions and emotional responses. She considers the viewers' interpretations and perspectives to play a substantial role in the artwork itself, believing this experience to be an integral component of her creative process.

As a BIPOC and disabled woman, Zienna deeply appreciates the inherent therapeutic benefits of practicing art and finds immense value in its ability to serve as a facilitator. It enables her not only to convey difficult emotions and visually actualise her conceptualisations but also to advocate passionately for disability, BIPOC, and women's rights.

Creative expression plays a profoundly significant role in Zienna’s life, providing her with a space where she is empowered to express herself freely and uninhibitedly, whilst highlighting the issues that matter to her, as well as, simply allowing herself to have fun.

Zienna navigates the complexities of emotional landscapes, deftly translating them through various artistic practices and mediums, spanning from canvas to screen and even sculpture. Recently, she has begun delving into the profound themes of self-identity and non-binarism, often using her character, Olf, as a compelling vehicle for this artistic exploration. Since 2020, she has focused primarily on restricting her use of colour, particularly in her illustrations and Olf-based artworks. By doing so, she challenges the notion that vibrance and energy can only be conveyed through extensive or bold colour choices, creating pieces that maintain a powerful dynamism even within a monochromatic theme.

Zienna perceives herself to be in the most explorative phase of her creative career and continues to challenge herself by purposefully seeking out and exploring bolder, more dynamic methods of creation. By merging various media and art forms, and intricately incorporating her fashion background into her fine art practice, Zienna Mieko-Haynes is an emerging artist who continues to captivate and inspire viewers with her diverse and thought-provoking creations. Her commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring abstruse and evocative artistic expressions positions her to leave an indelible mark on the world of contemporary art.
