I approached the creation of this piece with a refreshing sense of openness, allowing myself to explore joyfully without any preconceptions about where it would lead. The journey was all about embracing the uncertainty, exploring my ability to work outside of my comfort zones and to find simple delights in the process of creating in a new way.

The resulting artwork reflects my intention to bring spontaneity and fluidity into my practice. While I allowed myself to be free in my exploration, I was still, to some degree, mindful in selecting colours that would create a harmonious and consistent palette. I also worked to consciously incorporate areas of blank space—which is notoriously unlike me—adding contrast and creating an engaging visual dynamic with the vacancy/emptiness. In this piece, I combined fluidity and texture with raw, untouched areas of canvas, challenging myself to see something finished in the spaces I would ordinarily feel compelled to fill. This, I believe, was emulative of my journey through life during that period: feeling the urge to fill perceived gaps without allowing myself to take the time to see the beauty and possibility that potentially lay within them.
