Front Row Fashion Show: Goes Opera
- 2012

In 2012, I designed and self-funded my first-ever fashion collection, which debuted on the runway at Front Row Fashion Show, held at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, United Kingdom. The event, themed "Front Row Goes Opera," was larger than it had been in previous years and was dubbed “larger than ever before.” I was honoured to be the youngest designer ever to have participated in the history of the fashion show, thanks to the amazing opportunity given to me by the fabulous Creative Director and Organiser, Maika Crampton, who is a renowned costume designer.

My collection consisted of six garments. Stylistically, I leaned into the theme, working exclusively with black floral Chantilly lace over gold-finished charmeuse fabric, in addition to mesh and black lightweight neoprene, to create bold, dramatic pieces. While creating this collection, I also juggled my school work, holding fittings at my house after school and on weekends to ensure everything was perfect.

For my collection, I purposefully selected models who had no prior experience in modelling, giving them a unique chance to experience the world of fashion first-hand and walk a runway. I also organised hair and make-up, bringing in a professional hair and make-up artist to ensure that the looks met my desired vision. Additionally, I choreographed the runway routine, working with my models and directing them to ensure the timings were correct and the movements were cohesive.

On the night, the event was televised live. It was a very nerve-racking undertaking for me, but thankfully, everything went smoothly and without fault. The event was later described as Front Row’s best fashion show yet, which I was absolutely thrilled about. I also received high praise from Maika, who said, to quote “Your collection was brilliant, you totally amazed me, well done! I am expecting many more great things.” There was also a wealth of positive feedback from attendees, with many commenting on the success and impact of my collection.
