Coluh - 2019

Acrylic & Emulsion Paint
on Canvas.

This artwork, "Coluh," is notable within my portfolio and forms one half of a pair. It represents a marked deviation in both style and scale for me and currently stands as one of my largest canvas creations. I maintained the same unconventional approach for this piece as I did for its sister painting, “Bobo” – utilising LED lights to drench my studio in vivid colours, primarily red, green, and blue. This method allowed me to paint uninhibited, without full awareness of the colours I was using, introducing an element of unpredictability to the work.

I also employed the same 'anything goes/f*ck it' mindset for this piece, delving into form and mark-making practices, and layering colours to create palpable depth. I endeavoured to use larger brushes and more defined brush strokes to produce a more expressionist style of painting, aiming to create dynamic and expressive forms on the canvas.
